Richie Benaud

Topics gone bad, the musings of Palmer the Charmer re PTC Junior, Dulwich Yiddo's views from the armchair etc.

Richie Benaud

My favourite sports commentator of any sport of all time.

Truly a great.

His silences very often spoke volumes. You could almost hear what he was thinking at times.

By all accounts a great captain as well but well before my time.

Should be in the non footy thread certainly not gibber.

We were blessed growing up with Benaud (and Laker) providing the soundtrack of the summer. Whilst I quite like the bluntness of the current crop at times, I loved the way things were accepted for what they were were, umpires being human, making mistakes for example. A batsmen being given out missing a ball, the comment might be 'that was a tad unlucky' or the like, never 'that was not out, the umpire got it wrong.'

A true great.

(Always thought Peter West was a bit of a dick though)
