30 years ago today

Sorry to bring up the past as I know several don’t like it but just saw this day in history on twitter.

30 years ago today we lost at home to Hayes in the FA Cup. It’s was a big shock at the time. Tony Kelly scored for them if I’m not mistaken.

Awful, awful day.

Am sure Mark Graves was playing for Hayes. Don't think he scored though. Probably a fair chance Roy Marshall and Chris Walton were playing against us too?

Agree it was something of a shock as we were flying high in the Southern League Premier where as they were at the lower end of the Isthmian Premier. The Southern league was always presumed to be quite a lot stronger back then.

35 years ago was Stuart Pearce's last match for us, far more enjoyable

And where are the two clubs now?
Whilst Wealdstone are in 4th place of the National Conference South, the now Merged Hayes and Yeading are also in 4th place, but in the re-organised Bostik South Central Division table, where their local rivals now include Uxbridge, Northwood, Hanwall Town & Bedfont Sports.
Hayes fc of course had played for several years in the old Conference league before dropping down & then the merged club managed 2 seasons at Conference National but now are two divisions below Wealdstone.
Relative fortunes can change very quickly in football.
They play Edgware tonight in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

According to the Wealdstone history pages, we never lost again to Hayes FC if that is any comfort Bappo.

...but we had lost loads of times to Yeading

Whilst looking at stats,   a more shocking one was looking at current global non league attendance figures..

43 Wealdstone NATS average 937
243 Hayes & Yeading United IL1SC average 204

...ours were not much better when we were groundsharing at Springfield Ruad.

Deadly Sad Statto Stoaty McStoatface.

Back to the scoreboard. We did have a clock 30/35 years ago.. but no electronic scoreboard.

Prefer Ronnie s Stuart Pearce 35 years ago. Last game to crowd below 500 in the F.A.Cup to Baisldon .

Remember he did manage to send a Baisldon forward in the direction of the main stand.. who dared to go past him.

Only way of knowing whats what in the club was the Harry O every Friday.

...actually the (late lamented) Harrow Observer came out on Thursday which contained any midweek results and there was also a mid-week edition coming out Tuesday which carried the weekend matches! If you wanted to know "whats what" at the Club you went to the Wealdstone FC Social Club in the evenings where all manner of individuals would give you the low down on what was happening (most of it false though!) :geek:
