Awards for the season

Postby attic » Tue May 07, 2019 11:41 am

Used to be known as the Elmslie Ender awards many moons ago. My choices:

1) Best away trip of the season: Torquay

2) Worst Away trip of the season: East Thurrock

3) Best game of the season: Bath away Play off

4) Worst game of the season: Biggleswade FAT

5) Best visiting fans: Torquay

6) Worst visiting fans: Hemel Hempstead

7) Tackle/foul of the season: Smith V Eastbourne

8) Idiot of the season: Matt Ball

9) Best Catering: No idea as I don't get food in ground.

10) Worst Catering: No idea

11) Best 'moment' of the season: 5 min swing of results on last day.

12) Worst moment of the season: Bubb pen miss v Sutton.

I'm sure there's other categories!

Agree with most of those apart from:

8) Martin Tyler

11) Pratt's clinching 3rd goal at Bath City in the play off

Agree with most except...
1) Best away trip of the season: Whilst the Devonshire Countryside was an enjoyable experience for the week I was there (despite Deadly’s constant moaning about my navigation!) we did actually lose the Torquay game so I’m going for Woking (League not Play-Off) a big game we weren’t expecting to win and did. A lovely day by the beach and the firework display they laid on for us was also enjoyable!

2) Worst Away trip of the season: To get to East Thurrock’s ground is a quick flit into Corringham and straight out afterwards. Concord Rangers involves a trawl through Canvey Island which you can’t escape from so that will (always) get my vote!

6) Worst visiting fans: not sure Hemel Hempstead this time around were that bad as they didn’t bring that many and the ones that did were quite harmless. No real contenders really but I was quite surprised to see how few Bath City brought to our ground when they were contenders for a Play-Off place so if push came to shove purely from a numerical perspective I’d give it to them...

8) Idiot of the season: Although a lot of people will go Matt Ball on this one, for me personally (and I know I’m probably alone on this) it’s that Dulwich Hamlet stoat who decided to cheer his team on in my face when we’d just gone 0-2 down and looked as if we’d blown our chance of a Play-Off place. I’m standing behind the goal at the Bulla End and, like a lot of Stones fans at the time feeling really pi**ed off, the next thing I know he’s in my face at our End shouting "Come On Preston", "Great Game Preston" etc etc. All I then did was politely suggest that if he wanted to support his team he should go to the other end with the rest of the Dulwich fans were located and he started shouting at me (boo hoo hoo!)

9) Best Catering: Chelmsford City. Don’t always eat at all grounds but this time around they had a varied selection, reasonably priced and served cheerfully fairly quickly.

10) Worst Catering: Gloucester City. Not their fault of course cos it’s not their ground but chips are always dreadful. But sometimes you have to eat when you travel away…

11) Best 'moment' of the season: Linked but I’d say the “Final Whistle” on the last day when we knew we were in the Play-Offs. 8-)

I dont usually care about how many who brings to where etc but approx 21 fans for the last game of the season when its just down the road is absolutely pathetic.
