Southall 3 Stones 2

Defeated in last night's pre-season friendly by a late Peter Dean (yes!) penalty.

Southall played as if their lives depended on it and were useful.

Similar patter to previous game, with a much stronger 1st half line up and all change 2nd half.

Pitch incredibly bumpy and in poor shape didn't make it easy, nonetheless still looking very rusty and sloppy at times. Took the lead when Moses scored from Green's corner, only for Southall to equalise just before the break from the spot.

8 trialists in the 2nd half, one of whom scored to equalise after Southall had gone ahead. McClennan our 2nd half highlight looked good on the left.

Dean's late winner no less than they deserved in front of 80-90 I'd guess.

Quick look at the official forum has scores shown as 3-1,3-0 and 3-2. We can never lose. Draw but never lose.

Not present ,suggest pitch played big part, even so, if you can not put a combined counties team to bed . Alarm bells !!

Winning these hastily arranged games, in the current circumstances - is the least of it. Priorities must be in the 5 weeks left, to get out core squad fit and playing as a unit and sift through the vast amount of trialists that have become available, often from professional clubs - like Benyu from Celtic for example.

Expect more games like this. It's the right thing to do - especially as training facilities are a problem due to SARS-CoV- 2.

DB and the MT are right up against it in the next few weeks as they try to assemble a squad that can compete against the big boys - and they are big. We must recruit a few, integrate them and give them clear roles. That may give us a fighting chance against the likes of Notts County, etc.

A massive challenge on our budget and part-time.

I don’t know - it’s all so secretive - probably for good reason or some convention. I only found out because all the Aldershot fans were having a meltdown on Twitter about him - saying he was the best midfielder in the NL (2016) prior to joining Celtic.

https://twitter.com/atfc_brady/status/1 ... 11776?s=21 for example. But they go on and on.

He looked terrible against Bedford, probably rusty, but looked well worth another go on Tuesday's showing.
