Tony Joyce appointed new Ducks manager

Tony Joyce is the new Ducks' manager

Former Aylesbury United player, Tony Joyce, has been appointed the Ducks' new manager.
Joyce will replace caretaker manager Byron Walton after tonight's (Monday's) match against Beaconsfield SYCOB.

He joins a team struggling at the foot of the Southern League Division One Midlands, without a single point from seven games.

Joyce, a left-back, had three spells with United between 1991 and 2006, but only played for them a total of 17 times.

He has had managerial stints at Thame United and most recently Buckingham Town.

A statement on the Aylesbury United website said: "With three quarters of the season still remaining it isn't too late for Aylesbury to escape the relegation zone, and we hope this change will help us in that quest."

It says Walton- who was appointed caretaker manager after Martin Stone resigned a week before the start of the season- has 'been performing something of a firefighting role' and is leaving by 'mutual consent' after tonight's game.

"For that and for all of his hard work, the committee and board of directors are unreservedly grateful," says the statement.

"Sadly Byron hasn't been able to find a winning combination in that time, and so he and the club thought it best that a new manager would be sought.

"This decision was taken after the FA Trophy match at Beaconsfield, but Byron, being the man that he is, was unwilling to leave the club in the lurch and agreed to oversee these final two away games."
