So he's basically retired as a player then.

A wise move I would say and of course a good opportunity for him to develop his non playing career.

Michael Philips has left the club after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.

Thanks for everything Michael.

Helped us into The NL.
I got a colour TV, so I can see, The Knicks play basketball!

As was suggested earlier, the retained list will read 4 or 5 by the time the season starts.

Good luck Michael, an integral part of our Championship wining side.

Michael Phillips was player of the year in the Maidstone side that was relegated from the National League two years ago. He's an excellent player at NL South/North level but simply not powerful enough to survive at Step One.
That's the predicament we have. Finding the right players at the right price is a tough ask when you don't have the financial clout of (seemingly all) of our rivals. So get snapping up those season tickets and memberships! It is literally in our own hands.

Phillips was decent at NLS level and more than justified being retained for this season, unlike some.Personally I thought he would have been fine in the NL but it wasn't to be. He started off ok but just seemed to fade as the months went by until he became almost unrecognisable as a player. I did hear he'd had Covid and only he will know how much that affected him, but what I do know is his body shape at the end of the season was not the one he started with and consequently games were just passing him by. Get himself fit and he'll still be an asset for an aspiring NLS side.

A sensible decision which again, appears to show we know what we need, it takes. Michael was great in our champ winning side and best of luck to him.

Well we gave him a big big up because of his dad. When he initially joined.

Will he be walking in his dads footsteps ? and become a legend .

Obviously we don't know too much about him but its safe to assume he can deal with the level going on his CV. And really thats a step in the right direction for us because we had far too many NLS players last season.

One of those defenders who is better going forward so he really needs to be in a team who dominate possession and Grimsby should fit that requirement.

Teams like us who spend a lot of time defending need a more pragmatic player in that position.
