A lot of people would have seen this as its been on the supporters twitter site.

I think the bloke outside the club shop in the long Macintoshnear the start is that bloke who used to stand behind the goal at the Elmslie End listening to his radio shouting 'KICK THAT BLOODY BALL WEALDSTONE'

One of many characters who followed us.

Terrible crowd. Like a preseason match. This game would have been around the time of the infamous Dover home game.

Within a month we'd played our last game at our beloved Lower Mead.

Many, many thanks to Bader Mousa Marafi for providing the video....

I've now uploaded the full 11 mins 24s sec output to the WFC History Website Match Highlights page https://www.wfchistory.com/look-back/match-highlights/

It's actually quite a depressing video in some respects. I know faded VHS recordings often look a bit downbeat by nature but the paltry, semi disinterested crowd says it all. Not only were the Stones on a soon to be rapid decline to utter mousedom, but football in general had a bit of a poor reputation amongst the general public. This whole era at the Stones was one of frustration, anger and a litany of poor decisions made regarding players. It seems we were paying over the odds for mediocre footballers, quite a few who only turned it on when they felt like it. Cup disasters were the main theme, starting with that drab defeat at home to Wivenhoe, the numbing, wrist slashing defeat at scummead in the FA Trophy and then to top them off the debacle at Ruislip Manor in the FA Cup. Truth is we were done over by organised, commited sides who gave the required effort on the day. Our lot, to be frank, performed like wankers when there was any expectation.

Could things have turned out differently back then? I know there was a consortium looking to get involved at one point and move us to Wembley whilst they built us a new ground. Countrywide Markets wasn't it?

By the way that's definitely Dave Venables playing for them in the video, maybe Grant Gallacher too. We signed both about a year later in an attempt to stave off relegation.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.

Gazza's tears 8 months before this game was the start of football regaining its reputation and Sky/Premier league in 1992 was the final kick up the backside on its rehabilitation.

Throw Euro 96 into the mix and by the mid 90's football was the trendy 'new' thing for many people.

The precursor to all those defeats was the appalling home loss to Hayes in 1988. If I'm not mistaken Tony Kelly scored for Hayes that day.
