Boreham Wood Away 10/04/2021 lost 3-1 PLUS RED CARD

Postby deadly » Thu Apr 08, 2021 8:52 am

The Stones finally play the twice postponed fixture against Boreham Wood.
We won against them 1-0 in the Home fixture, which itself was moved forward.
'wood are currently the league's draw specialists, so can the Stones keep them at bay whilst hopefully scoring?
They have had a remarkable nine draws in the last ten games, and that sole exception was a one nil defeat to...Wealdstone. 8-)

The management team have an interesting dilemma for this game, do they still bring in the goalkeeper from Nottingham Forest, or stick with Jake Askew who certainly helped ensure a victory with a very impressive debut?
And hopefully Eli Hearn will likewise impress again.
Personally I would like to see us start the game with the same line-up that ended on the pitch v Barnet, but we shall see.

Obviously this will be a tougher test than the cuckoo's were, for one thing their discipline should be better, with no repeat of the off-camera handbags that occurred on Bank Holiday Monday.

Lost 3-1. red card. Very little attacking play. Only 4 subs on the bench.
Wood had the vast majority of possession and attacking play.

Wood deserved that but another battling display by the way under strength stones. Craig Fasanmade sending off was a strange one but crucially now he’ll miss three games.. and it was with him and Danny P on the pitch, and Dennon wide on the left that we had our best spell leading to JMM’s goal. So another spanking away, but we’re getting closer to it. The tactical discipline is slowly working. Now we just need four or five better players

So near yet so far today. At 1-1 they were rattled and clearly getting frustrated. Ten minutes to go and in spite of riding our luck earlier we should have held on.....end of story.

The difference though, was not '4 or 5 players' as has been suggested above....but physicality and the fact Borehamwood train on a 'hybrid' model. We gave it everything today but when you are up against giants who train more often the outcome will rarely be in our favour.

Good effort from our lads though overall.

Excellent goal from Mendy, who is by far along with Connor Smith our stand out players, but we have to many nearly men:
nearly made a tackle, nearly made a header, nearly made a good pass ,nearly managed to hold onto the ball, Again poor
defending for their opener. Wrong choice by the management to take off Smith, weakened the mid field. Too many weak players
who lack the determination to hold onto the ball. Brainless Fasanmade. Need more than 5 players, we need another 11, there are very
few in our squad that are good enough for the National League

Yep, you can't impress anyone when you are stuck in the stand on a three match ban. He's shown some ability but today we learnt something else about his game that might cost him a chance to further his career with us.

Let's be frank Wood should have been 3 or 4 up by the time they finally took the lead. However as I said earlier, we did brilliantly to get back in the game and really should have got a draw. Shortly after we equalised they went straight down the other end and nearly scored. Moments later we had the ball, lost possession and away they went to score. The third goal was unfortunate, seemed to just walk through and score. Was there a mix up?

The more I see the more I am convinced we need to implement a hybrid training regime. Otherwise, we are going to really struggle next season no matter who is representing us. Yes some bigger players would help but at present I don't think any other club is going to be PT next season?

Not sure I fully understand what this hybrid thing is that is being referred to. Most players have a level regardless of whether full of part time and Wood have better players full stop. Presumably Ashmore is exempt from extra training. Nature of goals conceded again the most disappointing thing, not that we were beaten. Keeper did look a bit suspect 1st time out. Sending off looked harsh, but unhelpful given we are threadbare. Doesn't get any easier with Hartlepool up next.

Keep reading after every game about going full time. Someone please explain to me where on earth are we going to find the extra £100k to pay players but still only on a budget that we must roughly be on, let alone increasing the budget next season.
It might be the way to progress but at present cannot see HOW we pay for this. Anyone who can spare £200k a season please step forward and speak to the board. Need to see reality, financially not in the same league with 90%+ of the clubs in this league. Could do with an FA cup run to 3rd round and get Man Utd away that would help fill the coffers .
Management team will do it’s very best with the finances on offer and hopefully get a few gems in on loan.
